Intro

I have a burning passion for salsa. I could eat it three meals a day. I have a difficult time finding good salsa where I live, so when I am traveling, I seek out salsas to bring home with me. This review page was born out of a desire to remember all of the delicious (and not so delicious) salsas that I have eaten.

I live in Birmingham, Alabama. I don't have nearly as many options for fresh salsa as those who live in the Southwest and West do. I make do with what is available and hope that more distributors will work on increasing the number of options that I have access to. When I travel, I pick up a new salsa if I have the time to stop by a grocery store.

My taste buds have biases, so take my reviews with a grain of salt (or a very big tortilla chip):

  • I prefer salsas that aren't too chunky. I dislike hard, chunky onions.
  • I favor spicier salsas over mild salsas.
  • I prefer traditional red salsas. But I'm willing to try green salsas or salsas with unusual ingredients such as beans, corn or cucumbers.
  • As much as I love salsa, I refuse to eat gummy, preservative-laden mass-produced salsas such as Pace.
The spiciness index goes as such:
1: Spaghetti sauce
2: A sprinkle of black pepper
3: Mild
4: A little tingle on the tongue
5: Comfortably medium
6: Causes the nose to run
7: Causes large quantities of beer to be imbibed
8: Hot
9: Makes the Baby Jesus cry
10: Causes severe diarrhea or rabid salivating
